Time and style
Time
60 minutes for both tasks, on one screen. You can move between them at any time.
Style
Task 1 is a letter, as formal as the task asks. Task 2 is an essay in full paragraphs.
Criteria
Task achievement in Task 1 or task response in Task 2, plus coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy
How it is scored
Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1. Our engine marks both tasks on the four IELTS criteria and corrects your own sentences.

Plan your hour
Spend about 20 minutes on the letter and 40 on the essay, because Task 2 is worth more.Write to your reader
The task says who you are writing to. Be friendly with a friend, and polite and formal with a company.Cover all three points
Task 1 gives you three points. Write a paragraph for each one.Answer every part
Many Task 2 questions ask two things. Answer both, or your task response band stays low.
