This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website, web app, mobile apps, and browser extension, or apply for or take one of our courses (together, the Service), how we use and protect it, and the choices you have.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). By using the Service you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details such as your name, email address, and password when you create an account. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information (such as your name and email) from those services.
  • Profile and onboarding details you choose to share, such as your target test and score, your native language, your country, when you plan to sit your test, how confident you feel in each skill, and how you heard about us.
  • Practice content you create, including audio recordings of your speaking practice, written responses, and your answers to reading and listening questions.
  • Messages you send us, such as support requests, feedback, and enquiries.
  • Course applications. When you apply for one of our courses, or ask about training for your organisation, through the form on our website, we collect your name and email address, the course and option you choose, and your answers on the form. These can include the English tests you have taken and your scores, the score you need, what you do now, what you want to improve, your time zone, when you are free for lessons, your organisation's name, your role and the size of your team, and anything else you choose to tell us.
  • Recordings of live lessons and workshops, when we record a session for training and quality, as our Terms of Service describe.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage and device information, such as your device type, browser, app version, and your general activity within the Service.
  • Your IP address, which we may use to estimate your general location, such as your country. We process this locally and do not sell location data.
  • On our mobile apps, a push notification token if you turn on notifications, so we can send you reminders and updates.

Guest accounts

You can start practising without creating a full account. We create a temporary guest account so you can save your progress and scores. If you later add your email, we link that guest account to you. Guest accounts that are never claimed are deleted automatically (see How long we keep your information).

2. How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Provide the Service, including running practice tests, saving your progress, and generating scores and feedback.
  • Create and secure your account, and verify your identity when you sign in.
  • Process your speaking and writing practice through our scoring tools so we can estimate your band or score and give you feedback (see AI and automated processing of your practice).
  • Personalise your experience, such as recommending practice based on your goals and self-assessment.
  • Communicate with you, including sending sign-in links, verification emails, reminders, and, where you have opted in, our newsletter.
  • Handle payments and manage your subscription.
  • Read your course application, reply to it by email, and arrange your course, including placing you in a course or level, planning your lessons and arranging payment.
  • Improve and troubleshoot the Service, and keep it secure.
  • Comply with our legal obligations.

Where the law requires your consent, for example to send you marketing emails, we rely on that consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

3. AI and automated processing of your practice

A core part of the Service is estimating your test performance and giving you feedback. To do this, we share the relevant practice content with trusted third-party processors:

  • Your speaking audio is sent to Google (Gemini), which transcribes it and analyses your pronunciation.
  • Your speaking transcript and written responses, including any images that form part of a writing task, are sent to Google (Gemini) to generate scores and written feedback.
  • Our spoken prompts and example answers are produced using text-to-speech from ElevenLabs. This uses our own prompt text, not your personal information.

These scores and feedback are estimates generated by automated tools. They are not official IELTS or PTE results. If you think a piece of feedback is wrong, you can contact us and ask a person to look at it.

4. When we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases.

Service providers

We use trusted third parties to run the Service. They may process your information only to provide services to us, under agreements that require them to protect it. Our main providers are:

  • Amazon Web Services (Sydney, Australia) for hosting and file storage, including your practice audio.
  • Google (Gemini) for speech analysis, AI scoring and feedback, and Google and Apple for sign-in.
  • Anthropic (Claude) to write the automated replies in our support chat, from the messages you send there.
  • Stripe for processing web payments, and the Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat for processing in-app purchases on mobile.
  • Email and newsletter providers to send you transactional and, where you have opted in, marketing emails.
  • Expo to deliver push notifications to our mobile apps.
  • Vercel to host our website.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Leap English Pathways, our users, or others.

Business transfers

If Leap English Pathways is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will let you know of any change in who controls your personal information.

5. Analytics

Our website and web app use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the Service so we can improve it. It records things like which pages you visit, how long you stay, the approximate location your internet connection resolves to, and the device and browser you use. We have turned off Google Signals and ad personalisation, so this information is not used to build advertising profiles or to follow you across devices. We do not use advertising or conversion-tracking pixels.

Our mobile apps use Amplitude to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. This includes session replay, which records in-app interactions such as the taps you make and the screens you view inside the app. We use this to fix problems and improve the experience, not to identify you to advertisers.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of first-party cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in, to keep the Service secure, and to keep your conversation in our support chat when you use it on our website without an account. Google Analytics also sets its own cookies on our website and web app, which it uses to tell a returning visitor from a new one and to measure how the Service is used. We do not use advertising or ad-retargeting cookies.

Some information, such as your theme choice and onboarding answers, is stored locally in your browser so the app works smoothly. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.

7. The Leap English Pathways browser extension

If you add our extension to your browser, it reads your PTE score report when you open it on Pearson's myPTE website. It reads only your scores and your test date: your overall score, your four skill scores and your eight Skills Profile scores. It does not read or keep your name, date of birth, ID numbers, photo or test centre, and it does not read other websites you visit.

The extension keeps these scores in your browser. They reach us only when you choose to save them to your Leap English Pathways account. We use them to show you which question types to practise. You can delete a saved score at any time on the Your PTE score page.

If you are signed in to Leap English Pathways in the same browser, the extension signs in too, so it can save your scores and show your name, plan and goal. When you sign out of Leap English Pathways, the extension signs out. You can also sign the extension out, and clear the scores it keeps, in its settings.

Our use of information we receive from the extension follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

8. Storage, security, and overseas transfers

We store your information, including your practice audio, on servers located in Australia (AWS Sydney).

Some of our service providers are located overseas, including in the United States, for example Stripe and Google. When your information is sent to them, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and hashed passwords. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, then delete or de-identify it when it is no longer needed. In particular:

  • Speaking audio recordings are deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • Guest accounts that are never claimed with an email are deleted after 30 days.
  • A course application, with your name, email address and answers, is kept until our team closes it. It is stored with the rest of our information in Australia, and only our team reads it.
  • You can delete your account in Settings. We delete or de-identify your personal information 7 days after you ask, and signing in before then cancels the request. We keep only the payment records that tax and accounting law require.

10. Your rights and choices

You can:

  • Access and update most of your information from your account settings.
  • Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
  • Delete your account in Settings, or ask us to delete your account and personal information.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the email, or by contacting us. We will still send you essential service messages.

To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity first. We will respond within a reasonable time and in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

11. Children

The Service is intended for people aged 16 and over. If you are under 16, please use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.

13. Contact us and complaints

If you have a question, request, or complaint about your privacy, contact us at contact@leapenglishpathways.com. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it promptly.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), which oversees privacy rights in Australia.
